Brazil set to host Copa América 2021

The 2021 Copa América will be the 47th edition of the Copa América, the international men’s football championship organized by South America’s football ruling body CONMEBOL. The tournament will take place in Brazil from 13 June to 10 July 2021.

After a meeting held by Brazilian supreme court regarding Brazil’s hosting Copa America 2021,majority of the decisions by the Supreme Court, means that the Copa America in Brazil will be able to begin on Sunday. There was an understanding of the situation in the country, though, as CONMEBOL have ruled that the national teams will have to be in a bubble and there will be no fans in the stands.

Ten teams are to play in 5 different cities as the competition would kick off with mix feelings. Games will be played at this stadiums, Maracana Stadium, Rio de Janiero, Estadio Nilson Santos Stadium, Rio de Janiero,Estadio Olimpico Stadium in Goiania, Arena Pantanal Stadium in Cuiaba and The Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha Stadium in Brasilia.

The most recent Copa América, was hosted by Brazil in 2019, and was won by Brazil’s after beating Peru 3-1 . The Copa América final determines which country is declared South American champions.

The opening match of Copa America 2021 will be played between Brazil and Venezuela in Brasilia on June 14 at 2:30 AM (IST).

Group A: Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay

Group B: Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru

Format of Copa America 2021

The top four teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals after the group stages matches. The quarterfinals of Copa America will be a knock-out affair and the winners will qualify for semifinals. The winner of semis will play the final on July 11, 2021.
