Since Argentinian superstar become a free agent in the last week, he now hopes to reach a new contract agreement with Barcelona, and the next few days’ negotiations will be crucial.

After El Mundo released figures describing how much Messi earns at Barcelona, the French newspaper L’Equipe have calculated that since leaving the Argentine is missing out on 100,000 euros a day as published by Marca.

According to El Mundo, Messi took home 138.9 million euros gross per season at Barcelona, which is no longer being fed to the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.

“I would like to say that it’s all done, but it’s not like that. The discussions are going well, but it’s not over yet. The idea is to finish up as soon as possible,” Laporta told the media recently. “We are confident, because he wants to stay.”

Leonel Messi and Barcelona would be hoping to sign a new deal in the coming days or weeks as the player prepares to return to Barcelona after he just won the 2020 Copa America Trophy.

Despite being one of the most decorated and brilliant players of the modern era – and arguably all time – with 10 La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues and six Ballons d’Or, questions over his lack of impact on the international stage have hung over his legacy.

There also remains the prospect of Messi going for what would likely be his last chance of winning the World Cup – something Argentina have not done since 1986 – should he lead his country out in Qatar at the age of 35 in December 2022.

Data published by Pickwise, has shown that James received 122,568 messages on Twitter between June 2020 and June 2021 which contained abusive language. That works out to be 336 abusive messages a day.

Putting that into perspective, second place on the list is taken by Marcus Rashford who only got 32,328 such messages over the same time period. While Cristiano Ronaldo only received 11,757 abusive messages, 110,811 less than LeBron James. Tom Brady is third on the list as he received 28,151 messages.
