West Bromwich Albion Football Club can confirm Sam Allardyce will step down from his post as head coach at the end of the season.
The Baggies boss has released a statement detailing the reasons behind his decision, which can be read, here.
Allardyce, 66, said he felt unable to commit to Albion for the long term.
He said: “West Bromwich Albion made me a generous offer to stay at The Hawthorns that shows the commitment of an ambitious club. After serious consideration, I have decided not to accept that offer.
“If I were to stay and achieve promotion next season the expectation would be for me to continue for at least another season and, sadly, that is not a commitment I feel able to make at this stage of my career.”
Sam Allardyce will leave his role as West Brom manager at the end of the season.
Allardyceās long-time assistant Sammy Lee and first team coach Robbie Stockdale will also depart The Hawthorns and the trio leave with the clubās best wishes for the future.
Sporting and technical director, Luke Dowling, said: āSam, Sammy and Robbie came in at a really difficult time for the football club and worked tirelessly in their efforts to keep the club in the Premier League.
āUnfortunately, collectively, we were unable to achieve our goal of surviving relegation. In the second half of the season we played with passion and desire, delivering some memorable results with organised, entertaining football.
āUltimately, we were unable to accumulate the points total required to keep us here, but Sam certainly restored pride with a number of resilient displays.
āSam, Ken (Chief Executive, Xu Ke) and I have discussed at length our plans for the future and we very much hoped to have Sam in charge for next season and beyond.
āSam and his coaching staff have been excellent to work with and I would like to thank them all for their efforts.
āSam has given his reasons for leaving and we respect his decision. He has been brilliant to work with and I wish him, Sammy and Robbie all the very best in the future. They will always be welcome at The Hawthorns.ā
Albion will now begin the process of sourcing a replacement for Sam Allardyce as head coach. Allardyce’s final match in charge will be away to Leeds United on Sunday.
The #PL table heading into the final day of the season.
Champions League, Europa League & Europa Conference League places to be decided on Sun may 23.
One point separates third-placed Chelsea and fifth-placed Leicester City with one game to go. So, it all comes down to the final day of the Premier League season. Three teams competing over 90 minutes in an attempt to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
Champions Manchester City have already sealed a spot in the 2021-22 group stage along with Manchester United, who can finish no lower than second.
PL Champions.
A maximum of five English teams can play in the Champions League. Chelsea winning the Champions League against Manchester City on 29 May but finishing fifth would see England’s five team quota fulfilled.
However, Chelsea will be guaranteed third place and a Champions League spot if they beat Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday (16:00 BST).
Liverpool and Leicester go into the final day level on 66 points and separated by goal difference – although the Reds have the edge. If Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Anfield, Leicester would have to beat Tottenham by a five-goal margin to finish fourth.
Who’s in the Europa League mix?
Only 32 teams are in the Europa League group stages from now on, down from 48 in previous years.
The fifth-placed Premier League team will qualify for the Europa League group stage – as will the sixth-placed team as FA Cup winners Leicester can finish no lower than fifth.
Going into the final day of the season, Leicester are fifth while West Ham, who are four points behind, are sixth.
Tottenham and Everton are also in contention for sixth spot.
Why seventh place gets into Europe
The Europa Conference League is effectively a step down from the Europa League Uefa’s new third-ranked competition?
The team that finishes seventh in the Premier League will qualify for the play-off round which takes place over two legs on 19 and 26 August.
One of West Ham, Tottenham, Everton and Arsenal, who are at home to Brighton on the final day, are in contention. Leeds can still mathematically finish in a European spot.
However, 10th-placed Leeds, home to relegated West Brom on the final day, would require a set of highly improbable results – including a huge swing in terms of goal difference – to make it.

Federico Chiesa’s winner reclaimed the Coppa Italia for Juventus, who won it four straight years from 2015-18. Federico Chiesa’s cool finish earned Andrea Pirlo his first major trophy as a manager as Juventus beat Atalanta in the Coppa Italia final.

Atalanta never threatened a second leveller and their frustrations boiled over late on as Rafael Toloi, who had been substituted several minutes earlier, was sent off for dissent shown from the sidelines.
